Finnish Power Metal band Sonata Arctica has been active since the late nineties. Until now, they have released nine full-length albums and performed all over the world. In 2014 they decided it was time to have a better website that they can manage themselves and chose to work with Stage CMS.
A necessary change
At the recommendation of renown Finnish graphic designer Janne “ToxicAngel” Pitkänen, who had learned about Stage CMS through his work with Nightwish, Sonata Arctica got in touch with us in May 2014. The band needed a better website to replace the one they had until then. They wished to manage the website themselves, which was not possible with the prior system.

I had to e-mail our webmaster for every little thing and in this business, it’s really important to get the news out right away. Now that we’re using Stage anyone of us can publish new information without even being a coder and we can get through to our fans immediately if and when something comes up.”

Adaptable Design
Another important feature for Sonata Arctica was the adaptable design. The band wanted to be able to change the look of their website with every new release. With Stage CMS that’s absolutely no problem and the Sonata Arctica-website features the album art as a background that can easily be updated.
These days, more and more of our clients incorporate the album artwork into a responsive web design, which allows the content to seamlessly adapt to the visitor’s screen size, as any modern website should. This way the content is always readable, providing a great User Experience and diving into the artist’s world through design and usability.
Photos and Videos
A band with such a long history needs to have an archive of the complete discography, of course. Sonata Arctica goes even further: with Stage CMS the band’s discography page showcases the album covers and provides production credits and lyrics for each of their albums, from 1999’s “Ecliptica" to 2016’s “The Ninth Hour“.
The Sonata Arctica-Gallery that was built using Stage CMS offers pictures from live performances and promotional shootings throughout the band’s career. Thanks to the Stage CMS-YouTube component, the website’s video section displays the band’s music videos on their record label’s YouTube channel - easy!

Nowadays, the members of Sonata Arctica manage the website on their own and in the rare case that the musicians themselves or their webmaster have difficulties our support is always one phone call away.
